Up one level

Times: 1 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset each day
Cost: $350 per person (including 2 nights lodging)
Maximum: 8 participants

Introduction

Mt. Evans (14,265 foot), located in the Arapaho National Forest West of Denver, is the preeminent location to photograph the beaufitfully majestic mountain goat. These amazing creatures are very accepting of humans, allowing workshop participants to get amazing photographs with lenses as small as 200mm! We may also get the chance to photograph many other species, including big horn sheep, yellow-bellied marmots, pikas and white-tailed ptarmigan as well as spectacular high mountain scenary.

As with all workshops I lead, the activities will be tailored to the experience level and interests of all participants: from beginners to lifelong photographers, using digital or film cameras.

Itinerary

On Friday evening, we will gather at the motel in Idaho Springs to discuss the days ahead. Each morning, we will gather 1 hour before sunrise and travel to the location for our mourning shoot, which will last until approximately 10am. We will then break for lunch and review the morning's experiences and the photographs we have all taken. After lunch we will travel to the location for our afternoon shoot, which will last until sunset.

Those intereted in photographing baby mountain goats are encouraged to register for the Jul 9-10 dates.

Details

Transportation to and from Idaho Springs and all meals are the responsibility of participants; double-occupancy lodging for 2 nights is included (single supplement $100).

There will be a certain amount of walking and moderate hiking, so participants are advised to wear comfortable clothing, including appropriate footwear. Since this is Colorado, where the weather can be unpredictable and change on a moment's notice, be prepared for temperature extremes.

Because we will be spenting most of our shooting time above 13,000 feet, participants must be in good health and able to handle the high altitude. If you have questions about whether you will be able to handle the altitude, please contact me before registering.
